"Above all, look at the things around you, the immediate world around you. If you are alive, it will mean something to you, and if you care enough about photography, and if you know how to use it, you will want to photograph that meaning." Quote by - Paul Strand

Unlocking Your Creative Spirit with The Artist's Way: Instructor - Cheryl Bruemmer
TIME: Saturday, May 30th
9:00 am - Noon
This workshop will focus on each person's individual creative style. What makes you tick creatively? What gets your creative juices flowing? We will start by looking at where you are and find a few simple things to expand your art and style. Julia Cameron author of The Artist's Way suggests we "take one small daily action instead of indulging in the big questions." Where do you want to take your photography or your creativity? Let's find out together!
About Cheryl Bruemmer
Cheryl Bruemmer has been facilitating Artist's Way groups for years in the Anacortes area. She has also attended a weekend workshop on The Artist's Way taught by Julia Cameron. Through her own work with The Artist's Way she has written fiction, and non-fiction stories as well as poetry. She has also explored photography, working with clay, improv, drag racing and guitar. Her newest adventure is filmmaking, which she studied at WWU.
Developing a Personal and Recognizable Style: Instructor - Dick Garvey
TIME: Saturday, May 30th
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
A workshop geared toward stepping out of the "safe and acceptable" photography style. Making images that express who you are. Building confidence in your style.
Making images that come from inside you, instead of taking homogenized pictures for the masses. Eliciting emotional responses. A workshop, for those who want to go from taking pictures that are "isn't that nice", to making images, that stop people in their tracks.
"If you are not shooting for the stars, why are you shooting at all?"
About Dick Garvey
Graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography, with a Bachelor's Degree.
TAUGHT AT:
Elementary schools, Western Washington University, the University of Washington, and the Brooks Institute Photography Workshop Series.

A Painter Looks at Photography: Instructor - Alfred Currier
TIME: Sunday, May 31st
10:00 am to Noon
As a painter, I'm more interested in the process of what I do more than the end product. Some painters are more interested in the end product than in the process. It seems that art is primarily for the artist. The artist could be a photographer or a painter; it doesn't make any difference.
"When examining your own work, you must be aware of the difference between technique and the exploratory process."
There is a point when you need to take your equipment and just use it. Don't pursue other techniques. Take the equipment you have and go out there and use it. Open your eyes and see.
About Alfred Currier
I've had an intrinsic interest in art for as far back as I can remember. The world could be crumbling around me and my art would still be there. It is my friend...it is my safe haven. In the end, for me, art is about the process of doing, and not the end product expected.

From Concept to Completion: Instructor - Brooks Jensen
TIME: Sunday, May 31st
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
This workshop will concentrate on finishing photographic projects: portfolios, exhibitions, and/or publications. Have you ever had difficulty bringing a project to completion? Do you get stuck moving from an idea to a finished project? We'll explore ten specific motivations and techniques that help spur momentum and completion. We'll look at a number of different types of photographic end-products, from the single print to the formal portfolio, from magazine submissions to a book publication, from website galleries to PDFs, and beyond. The purpose of this session is to get your creative juices flowing and demonstrate methods to maintain that momentum through the completion of a project.
